Guiding Principles
Psychotherapy and counselling can be powerful tools to help you develop an understanding of yourself (behaviour patterns, thought patterns, perspectives and emotions), gain confidence and consider more fulfilling ways of moving through the world. I foster a collaborative approach to my work with clients in their discovery of the origins of current challenges so that personal growth may unfold with lasting change. I offer the foundations of a safe, supportive and confidential environment from which the seeds of such transformation may take hold.
My work is underpinned by the principles of mindful presence, interconnectedness, curiosity and a belief in the inherent intelligence of every living system to evolve.
Psychological Safety & Pacing
I understand that taking the first step to reach out for help can be challenging so I encourage you to allow yourself time to feel sufficiently comfortable with myself, the physical space of the therapy room, and the therapy process itself before embarking on deeper explorative work. Taking this time to create or safe container, or holding space, is an important element to building trust, pacing yourself, and not pushing beyond your comfort zone. Another helpful factor of pacing can be to ask any questions you may have about my training and experience and I would welcome such enquiries out of respect for your need to develop a degree of trust in my clinical competence.
The work of psychotherapy and counselling is not limited to the consulting space. The consulting space is a springboard from which ideas, perspectives and self-perception may be pondered and experimented with between sessions. For this reason, I am also interested in your self-management between sessions which can provide useful information about the pace of the therapy sessions and if this needs to be reviewed.
