-
Adjustment to parenting

PTSD
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
If you are struggling with the aftermath of a single traumatic incident (Eg: traumatic birth, victim of crime, car accident, natural disaster) and associated signs of PTSD you might also benefit from counselling. PTSD may include flashbacks, being easily startled or frightened, angry outbursts, irritability, avoidance behaviours, being on guard, trouble sleeping, or difficulty concentrating.
Where the same PTSD signs have been a challenge for a protracted period of time and are associated with childhood trauma, adult trauma, refugee trauma or war related trauma then psychotherapy is likely indicated. This is because the trauma is complex having occurred in the context of interpersonal relationships.
Counselling tends to be short-term (6-25 sessions).
